The Gourmia Handheld Immersion Blender & Personal Smoothie Maker is a truly unique appliance. While most Immersion Blenders have the same basic parts and ideas, the Gourmia has these and more!
The Gourmia Immersion Blender comes with a 16 oz BPA-free blender bottle. Yes, that’s different that the beaker that comes with most other brands. They have also included a cross blade attachment that locks in between the motor and the sports bottle after you have filled it with your smoothie ingredients.
You see where I’m going with this?
You then flip it upside down and turn the Immersion Blender on to the speed of your choice to blend. When you’re finished, you can put on the sports lid and go out with your fresh smoothie breakfast!
Of course, it can also be used as a conventional Immersion Blender with the blender attachment locked into place. But the real draw here is the ability to load up a sports bottle, blend and go.
There’s not really another device like it, so read on below the breakdown to see if it’s worth a try or if it’s just a gimmick that belongs in the bin.

The Gourmia Handheld Immersion Blender is meant to be used in two ways and it performs both of its functions especially well. It has five speeds as well as a turbo mode which is great if you like a very thin consistency, maybe for those picky little people in your life we sometimes refer to as kids.
The blending attachment and cross blades attachment are made of stainless steel and the housing is made of aluminum with a soft coating on the handle and power buttons. The front of the unit has the power and turbo buttons and the simple speed selector is at the top of the unit, like the OXO Digital Immersion Blender.
You can select the turbo option regardless of what speed you are on so you can blend on the 1st speed, for example, for lighter ingredients and then the turbo speed to take out the grittiness of some ingredients such as strawberries if you like.
This appliance comes in black and has a handy hook on the motor for hanging up to store. The sports bottle lid has a clip for hanging as well, which is nice for drying.
You can use it with the included smoothie bottle with the cross blade attachment, use it in a separate beaker (not included but any will do) or atop your pot on the stove.
Overall, the design is definitely in-line with the current trend of sleek, modern and minimal that you see everywhere these days. One small complaint is that it only comes in black, so if you’re looking for more colorful options, it’s best to stick with brands like Chefman or Cuisinart.
This Immersion Blender has a 300-watt motor. If you’ve read any of our other reviews, you will see that this is pretty good for the price. It can process many ingredients with it’s 5 distinct speeds and turbo button.
We like that the turbo button is not a speed 6, but rather a speed you can get to from any setting to quickly pulse your ingredients. So it’s like jumping up a notch or two while still pressing the power button.
We did note some reports online of products with faulty motors, even catching fire(yikes!). These incidents seem to be all around a specific period in early 2017 (January-March specifically) and were all responded to by the Gourmia company in an effort to replace the faulty product.
This Gourmia Immersion Blender normally receives a good report by reviewers so we may chalk these events up to a bad batch of products. It can happen to the best of them.
The power cord for this Immersion Blender is about 3 feet long. That’s almost 2 feet shorter than some others and this may affect your ease of use when using in a pot on top of the stove and moving around the kitchen.
It’s not a total deal breaker, but for the price it’s acceptable.
Gourmia also provides a 12-month warranty. This is par for the course and should at least provide a small piece of mind.
The Gourmia Handheld Immersion Blender comes with the soft handle motor unit, the blending attachment, the cross blade attachment, and a 16 oz (500ml) BPA-free smoothie blender bottle with a lid.
The blender bottle has a lot of value in that you can use it as your water bottle too! All of the attachments are dishwasher safe.
Did we mention the smoothie blender bottle with cross blade attachment? Kidding aside, this is the star feature of this Immersion Blender. The cross blade attachment snaps onto the blender base, then the bottle screws into the attachment forming a seal.
Upside down it goes for a quick blend. You can shake it and twist it to get a really good blend.
Users have noted however that the cross blade attachment does not handle leafy vegetables as well as other foods as it gets stuck in the blades. Be mindful of this limitation and chop your fruits and vegetables (especially your leafy greens such as kale) into small chunks.
This is best suited for more soft and liquidity blends. You have to admit, when you are rushing out the door in the morning, it is so nice to not have to clean up your smoothie beaker and blender attachment!
Just give the cross blade attachment a quick rinse and top off your blender bottle with the lid and you are out the door!
There are no other attachments or accessories here, but if Gourmia wanted to set itself apart from the pack, they have succeeded with the smoothie bottle alone.
Product Alert – California Proposition-65 Information
A common concern we have noted with this product is a small disclaimer in their product manual. It states the following:
“WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer.” and “WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.”
Whoa! What they are talking about here is the law of California Proposition-65 which was approved by voters in 1986. It is also known by the name ‘The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act’.
Basically, it requires the state of California to publish an ever growing list (now around 950) of chemicals which are known to cause birth defects, cause cancer or reproductive harm. Proposition-65 requires that manufacturers of products which might contain any of these chemicals notify Californians by listing this warning on their package.
Since companies don’t know if their buyers will be from California or not, they put the warning on all of their packages which helps cut manufacturing costs.
If you pay close attention, you will see this disclaimer on quite a bit of merchandise; anything from clothing to—you guessed it—kitchenwares.
Here is a link to what chemicals are on the list:
Gourmia has responded to questions about this warning on various forums acknowledging this and assuring that their products are safe. An exact quote from one of their representatives reads as follows:
“As a socially responsible company, we ensure that our products are safe for use. The last thing we want is for you to be unsatisfied with your experience, so if you should need any further assistance, do not hesitate to call us.”
This is good reassurance, however, if you are sensitive to these types of things, you may want to consider getting another Immersion Blender.
The Gourmia Handheld Immersion Blender & Personal Smoothie Maker is a truly unique, multitasking product handling anything from soups and sauces to smoothies. While we wouldn’t recommend this Immersion Blender to anyone not interested in using the cross blade and bottle functions, it’s still a great value and popular with reviewers.
There are other Immersion Blenders in this price range that include different accessories and power options that may better suit your needs, but this is just so unique that perhaps you can use two Immersion Blenders in your kitchen?
The Bottom Line
With 5 speeds, a turbo boost and really cool smoothie maker functions, we can highly recommend this Immersion Blender for the smoothie maker on the go. If this is your main purpose of use, for this price, you won’t find another like it!
